What is comforting to you? Do any images or feelings arise when you hear the word "comfort?" What does comfort feel like? Does it have a taste or a smell? How do you experience comfort?
Comfort is something I have had to learn about. It is the kind of learning that can only come through experience. There were times in my life that I needed to be comforted, but it was not available. I didn't know I could ask for God to provide that comfort for me.
In my suffering I have been pursued by the God of comfort. I am learning to call out to Him whenever I am in need. I can call out whether my need feels "legitimate" or not. There is no shame in needing to be comforted - in longing to be held. God has responded to my calls with tender and loving attention. I am still surprised each time He responds so intimately; so perfectly. He sees me. He sees you. He knows what you need and it is His great pleasure to provide for you.
And now, out of the comfort that has been given to me, I offer it to you today. Whatever you are facing, whatever the struggle, God sees you and He knows your need. What would it look like for Him to comfort you today? Ask for the comfort to come in a way that you will understand. Wait in expectation and hope for what the Lord will provide. He delights in hearing your heart and providing perfectly for you today.
