I'm not much of a gardener. I have a rather brown thumb actually. Though I can't keep flowers alive, I greatly enjoy them. Flowers bring such simple beauty to a space. Flowers bring beauty to desolate space.
I live next to a beautiful neighborhood that has many thriving flower gardens. It has become a treasure to walk through the neighborhood on summer mornings and watch the flower gardens grow and flourish.
It has turned cold here. The first hard freezes of the season are bringing the beautiful flowers to their end. Yet yesterday, there was a sole daisy still standing tall, in perfect form. This daisy had not succumb to the cold frost. It was as beautiful as it had been on a bright August morning. A small voice urged,
"Pick the flower - I saved it just for you."
"This flower has endured much, just like you. Its roots were deep and it survived the harsh freeze, even as her fellow daisies fell and shriveled away. This is what it means to have life in me. When your roots are deep in my love, you can stand tall, even through the harshest of storms."
The Lord whispers hope and encouragement to my soul through His creation. He sees us. He knows us. He calls us by name. We are His.
Whatever you are facing today, He is with you. Send your roots down deep into His love and He will sustain you.
